(August 2011) EXCERPT: “On the western edge of New York State sits the Buffalo-Niagara Region, which has seen a steady increase in filming activity over the past few years. “The tax incentive is what drives filmakers here to scout,” says Buffalo Niagara Film Commissioner Tim Clark. “Once they arrive, they are often surprised by the wide variety of available locations, the high level of municipal support and the low cost of lodging, catering and other services.”
Western New York boasts varied urban and rural settings with architecture from every era, above- and below-ground subways, abandoned industrial sites, canals, rivers, Niagara Falls and two great lakes The abundance of snow in the winter and the long, sunny days of summer have also helped bring projects to the region.
