(October 3rd, 2018) The Buffalo International Film Festival (BIFF), a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit film festival serving Western New York starts this Friday. Highlights include the opening night film Christina Kallas’ The Rainbow Experiment, the Closing Night presentation of Adam Linkenhelt and Pat McGee’s American Relapse, and the World Premiere of Niagara Falls-lensed The Rainbow Bridge Motel. In addition, BIFF is pleased to present Western New York premieres of Sundance, South By Southwest, Cleveland and Slamdance award winners The Sentence, Thunder Road, Manry at Sea, and MexMan respectively. Tickets are on sale now at buffalofilm.org.
New for programming for 2018 includes independent episodics as well as a new student block highlighting emerging Western New York talent. Additionally BIFF includes special events – free industry panels and a special performance by pioneering experimental filmmaker and musician Michael Snow.
This year the Buffalo International Film Festival will screen more than 125 films from 22 countries. Venues include the North Park Theatre (1428 Hertel Avenue, Buffalo 14216), Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center (341 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo 14202), Squeaky Wheel Film and Media Art Center (617 Main Street, Buffalo 14203), and Burchfield Penney Art Center (1300 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo 14222).
“Our twelfth annual festival again includes acclaimed films from around the world as well as from around the region. This year we’re proud to deepen our commitment to cinephiles as well as the growing Western New York film industry through the expansion of our local and student programming lines,” said Interim Executive Director John J. Fink.
“BIFF returns offering an inclusive survey of creative works from around the world and region highlighted by our new episodic programs. To cap off this new programing section we close the festival with a screening of the timely American Relapse – the basis for an upcoming Viceland series – as we continue the vital conversation about the evolution of cinematic storytelling through the development of new platforms.“ said Festival Director Tilke Hill.

(August 22nd, 2018) The Fred Olen Ray directed feature film “Deadly Shores” will make it’s television debut this Friday at 8pm on the Lifetime Movie Network. Filmed in Bemus Point, Lewiston, Buffalo, and Barker . This gripping thriller follows Anna who moves to a remote island as the new bride of a famous mystery writer. Once there, she uncovers secrets about her new husband’s dead former wife and fears she may be the next victim. Carly Schroeder, Phillip P. Keene, Henry LeBlanc star. The 30 Mile Point Lighthouse in Barker, NY provided the center piece for this feature.
(June 19th, 2018) The next feature shooting in Buffalo this July is Bashira, directed by Nickson Fong. About an electronic musician and an aspiring singer that is haunted by nightmares and visions that begin to intrude on their waking lives, prompting them to embark on parallel journeys in search of answers.
The film will be hosting a open casting call to audition for the film this Sunday, June 24th, 2018 at the Park School Auditorium, 4625 Harlem Rd, Buffalo, NY 14226 from 12pm to 5pm. Free parking available. The auditions are open to both SAG-AFTRA members and non-union actors. Please bring your head-shot, resume, and your audition sides (link below).

She takes every chance she can get to put Lela in her place and let her know who is boss. She wants John all to herself so she can assert control.
[KARTER HUGHES] 18 to 23 years old, Caucasian, male. Handsome and physical, he’s your typical jock and frat boy bully. An athlete in high school, he thinks his muscular physique gives him the right to push around anyone smaller than him. He’s intimidating, and when he smells fear, it’s like a drug that makes him feel superior. He’s not afraid to use it to get what he wants.
[BILLY “DUTCH” GRANT] 18 to 23 years old, Caucasian, male, Handsome and physical, he’s cut from the same cloth as his best friend Karter. Typical pretty boy bully and all around jerk who uses physical intimidation to push people around.
[BRYNLEE VALLON] 18 to 23 years old, all ethnicities female. Attractive, entitled and stuck up, she’s one of the popular kids and she knows it. She zeroes in on people she considers weak and relishes in humiliating them. She flaunts what she’s got to either get what she wants or to show those who are beneath her what they’ll never have. The truth is, she’s insecure and only lashes out at people she doesn’t understand. She’s also just a straight up bitch, hanging out with like-minded “friends” who enable her worst habits and instincts.
[MICHIHISA] 13 to 17 years old, Asian, Male. Preferably of Japanese decent. (BENEFICIAL IF BILINGUAL, BUT NOT NECESSARY) Son of Kazuo, the head priest of Shimomura, he’s a follower, not a leader. Although he respects, and even fears the village customs, peer pressure is a stronger force of motivation. He follows the defiant Kenji to a taboo place in the forest and suffers a fate similar to his misguided friend.
[KENJI] 13 to 17 years old, Asian, Male. Preferably of Japanese decent. (BENEFICIAL IF BILINGUAL, BUT NOT NECESSARY) He’s a rebellious alpha who doesn’t have patience or reverence for the customs of his home village of Shimomura. He scoffs at their archaic beliefs and openly challenges the number one taboo in order to impress one of his lackeys and a girl he’s harassing (but secretly has a crush on). Unfortunately, he pays for his ignorance.
[MR. COATES] 65 to 75 years old, all ethnicities male. Crusty old building manager with an incontinence problem, he considers his tenants family. He’s stern with the rules, but if he likes you, he’s willing to bend them just a little. However, don’t think you can take advantage of him because he’ll eat you for breakfast.
[SHIN NGUYEN] 30 to 35 years old, Asian, Male. Club promoter and manager, not opposed to shady methods to keep his business going. He admires the passion Andy has for his music and craft, having watched him go from busboy to DJ opener. It’s because of the potential he sees in Andy that he’s willing to stick out his neck and try to help the kid succeed. He doesn’t do that for just anyone.
[EDWIN SOLOMON] 40 to 50 years old, all ethnicities male. Geeky by nature, his passion is taking old, discarded things and uncovering the treasures that they really are. He got it from his father, who opened up an antique shop when he was a little boy. Now the shop is his, and he finds no greater joy than helping someone find that rare item which makes their lives complete.
[SHARON MONROVIA] 45 to 55 years old, Caucasian female. Andy’s Mother is frail and sickly, no longer able to fully take care of herself. Very caring, but a fraction of what she once was, her memory is fading fast.
